A.R.E. Weapons - 'Hey World'

An ambitious chunk of mildly laughable stadium-cheese, with some serious social-political messages to back its cause, NYC's A.R.E. Weapons may occasionally make for iffy, inconsistent hearing, but you can't say it ain't challenging.

'Parents don't be so hard...' our singer Brain advises, amidst elevating, cheapy synths and the sort of overall ambience you'd expect Bruce Springsteen or even The Flaming Lips to thieve at will on latest 45, 'Hey World', whilst a glorious, anthemic chorus sweeps through the speakers to a genuinely involving, rousing effect.

There are few bands around at the moment that you'd feel keen or comfortable for the world to be put to rights by. Apart from A.R.E. Weapons that is.
