Amplifier - 'The Consultancy' (Music For Nations)

2/5

By: Samantha Hall

Amplifier

Hotly-tipped, rawk-trio Amplifier truly have the music-industry split, already - adored by some, perceived elsewhere as post-classic rock heroes (they recently managed to snag a Deftones support), but disregarded by others as wearingly MOR.

Whatever, with debut-45 'The Consultancy', Amplifier somehow seem to lack real, grappling passion - though you wouldn't realise it at first; the hefty one-minute-odd introduction of their first single taken from a forthcoming, self-titled, debut album is extremely promising: ripping guitar-riffs and a building, euphoric rhythm-section all seem favourable ingredients for one great rekkid.

Then, disaster strikes, as 'The Consultancy' carries dawdling on towards a seemingly never-ending finale, as they repeat the trick over and over, unnecessarily. Shame - was so almost there.
