Ash - 'There's A Star' (Infectious)

4/5

By: Toby L

AshAlways ones to overdo it, Ash are releasing the fifth single from their 'Free All Angels' album in the form of this: 'There's A Star', which - appropriately enough, thanks to its soaring strings and dreamy arrangement - is rather over-the-top.

So what, though? It's obvious that the tune's bound to be up to scratch following their last efforts - and it is. Tim Wheeler's ever-pubescent hum of a voice may be the most inoffensive sounding vocal in rock, but it suits the track more than aptly, which also bears sumptuous backing singing from guitarist Charlotte, and a typical Ash solo prior to a closing singalong of the song's title.

Though it sometimes seems as if Ash don't even have to try to write perfect pop tunes of credible merit, just remember: the best things tend to come naturally.
