Badly Drawn Boy - 'Born Again' (XL)

4/5

Badly Drawn Boy - 'Born Again'

A subtly endearing vocal-moan, guitars that grunt and entwine more than they throttle: surely, that can only mean one thing...

Oh yes - BDB is back. This time sporting complex time-changes, and a rhythm-section that surges affably all over the musical-spectrum, into Beck-esque, blues freak-outs and placid, acoustic, reflective embers, Badly Drawn Boy's second single from the really-rather-astounding 'Have You Fed The Fish?' may not form the basis of his most commercially-viable piece to date, yet is no doubt one of Damon Gough's more competent excursions into the pop-market.

So, whilst house-wives are unlikely to turn off the vacuum in order to listen more intricately to the sonic-blasts reverberating from the radio, certainly expect the musos to break out into a damp shiver instead. That's at least some commendable feat.
