Badly Drawn Boy - 'Silent Sigh' (XL)

4/5

By: Toby L

Badly Drawn Boy - 'Silent Sigh'You should have heard this one by now; it's been on the radio about five million times a day - and you can't say it's escaped your viewing-attention when you've been flicking through the alternative music-channels on TV either... Still, sometimes when songs as classic and smooth as this are shoved in your face, offering no choice except for you to avidly consume what's on offer, then it's by no means a bad thing.

Badly Drawn Boy - AKA Damon Gough - is always an eclectic musical-beast, and so it's only fitting that his return single-proper for quite some time - taken from the motion picture, 'About A Boy' - is as enchanting and creative as anything else he has conjured up thus far. Much of its subtle charm lies within its repetitive, multi-tracked breaths from Gough, as well as via the rather high-pitched vocals, which are, indeed, almost enough to bring Prince (or whatever he's called) out of hiding in order for the two to battle in the contest of the Most Delicate Falsetto Championships 2002.

In short, even after the Mercury-Prize winning album, the hit singles and flawless live-reputation, BDB has come up trumps again. Let's hope 'Silent Sigh' fails to receive a response similar to its title.
