Belle & Sebastian - 'Step Into My Office, Baby'

The first single from their new album, 'Dear Catastrophe Waitress', sees a giggly, cheeky Murdoch and Co. handing over a sliver of polished pop. It should be - for their latest they've pulled producer Trevor Horn on board their big happy bandwagon, and he's the bloke who produced such memorable pop as T.A.T.U., Frankie Goes To Hollywood and ABC. Yes, you read that correctly. Surely the mere thought of that must have left the band's obsessively worshiping fan-base quaking in their collective wittily sloganed t-shirts... Goodness - what about the cred? Think of the children!

But fear not, gentle reader - the results are bouncy, light-hearted and well... just plain fun. 'Step Into My Office, Baby' is a shot of pure Beach Boys-y summertime sunshine, but with an irresistible tongue-in-cheek charm. You can almost hear the B&S lot dancing away, trying to hide their sly glee as if it's their own private joke. The b-sides stand up on their own as well. And as winter closes in fast with a parade of dreary days and music takes its usual dark and twisted turn, it's the perfect remedy.

While there are those who would choose to turn their noses up at B&S and brand it all as snotty music for those about to disappear up their own arse, little ditties like this could possibly be the kind of thing that would change their minds.
