And if you thought that The Coral were the last of their kind for some time... With The Bandits, however, we haven't got so much a bunch of copyists as yet another combo of impeccably gifted musicians throwing around a bunch of melodies strong enough to reward attention on first listen.
Though, yes, they're Scousers, too - you can hear that from the moment 'play' is pressed - yet there's enough bizarre innovation, floating guitars, highly locked-down drums and bass and commanding vocals within debut-single, 'The Warning', to set your foot-a-tappin' and your head-a-blaze with dizzy exhilaration.
With live-appearances rumoured to further amplify the whole experience, and their presence amongst us likely to cause a storm of excitement amongst presently spoilt music-fans, maybe The Bandits are 2002's final, latest and greatest, new British act. If so, get wiv 'em now.
