The Basement - 'Medicine Day' (Deltasonic)
4/5

The preliminary signs are looking positive: a new, young Irish band recently signed to the highly-fruitful Deltasonic label, and a foursome that also happen to be emblazoned a title that marks rockfeedback's own monthly club-night. Yes, The Basement are up there with the best of 'em as one of the most exciting, fresh talents to have emerged in 2003.
Musically, it's just as appealing; the quartet's first single - a double A-side, no less - brings together the Dylan timelessness of a delightful 'Medicine Day' and the slightly more upbeat Gorky's guitar of 'Stuck On The Street' - a package as proud to look back to the past to find its influences as it is to look forward to the soaring prospects of a songwriter rejuvenation, singer John Mullin more than likely providing a fighting case for the latter.
Though they may be christened a name that is associated distinctly with being underground, there's little likelihood in The Basement remaining dazzling relatively-unknowns for too many days longer.
