Blur - 'Crazy Beat' (Parlophone)
3/5

Every couple of years, it's tough not presuming one Damon Albarn having a recurrent, cash-fuelled mind-botherer.
'Hmm,' his brain nags convincingly. 'How about the concoction of a series of non-descript, totally meaningless lyrics combining with a repeating riff; distortion-levels on full, ear-molesting blast?'
So, following 'Popscene'. And then 'Bank Holiday'. Then 'Song 2'. Then 'Bugman'. Comes 'Crazy Beat'.
Yet, whereas a number of the previous resulted in 'Classic Blur', 'Crazy Beat' seems the insidiously-intended, kooky brother, so openly commercial and Coxon-less that prior single - and official bearer of the title marked 'Classic Blur' - 'Out Of Time' seems, tragically, a world away.
Nonetheless, and as formulaic a thrashing it may be, 'CB' is still guaranteed to rouse after a few ales at the local indie-disco.
