British Sea Power - 'Childhood Memories' (Rough Trade)
4/5
By: Toby L

'I believe that change is on the way,' croon our British Sea Power, an act so ebulliently leftfield from the present alt-pop predicament that they're more akin to Pulp fisting Belle & Sebastian than any persistent, leather-jacket adorning US-wannabe. And maybe they're right.
Amidst spiralling synths and wistful, elegant guitar, the otherwise traditional affair soon growls and explicates before manifesting into a concoction of yelping vocals and rattling feedback, which is five parts accessible and the rest sonically shocking. An altogether imaginative potion that scores accolade for its sheer, kill-all-indie audacity.
