Ian Brown - 'Whispers' (Polydor)
4/5
By: Toby L

At first, this creeps along at an irritating pace, before evolving into an odd electronica/synths-tinged piece of forgettable music... Yet, that's at first...
For, yes, this is a prime example of a 'grower', peo-ple. From the primary listen, it could slip through your ears and past your brain without even stirring the slightest of interest, though after repeat plays, the chances are that you'll be locked into the complicated rhythm and shoulder-bopping slur of Brown proclaiming, 'I hear a lot of whispers...' as beats and beeps blurt out of the speaker in all directions. A marvellous mess.
Typically modern, expectedly experimental and reassuringly different, Ian Brown - despite his past of existing within a classic band, The Stone Roses - is almost on the verge of becoming a classic solo-artist.
