The Burn - 'Drunken Fool' (Hut)
3/5
By: Toby L

We find ourselves in early-Bowie territory as the pivotal major-chords are provided a strum at the entrance of The Burn's second single to date, 'Drunken Fool', the pre-cursor to the northerners' upcoming, debut-LP - the intriguingly titled 'Sally O' Mattress'.
Purveying a classic sound not really of the current crop, although 'DF' shimmers with all the structure of what could be deemed a focussed, constructed, alt-country-bordering-indie gem, there's a barrier to overcome with the lack of intense energy offered herein; although the so-emblazoned 'new rock revolution' may soon pull to a halt, there's still something to be said about the charismatic zeal with which its compositions are executed - a certain something that this track could notably benefit from.
Maybe then The Burn, true to their title, would transpire into an act even more worthy of an incendiary, heated conversation about.
