Chikinki - 'Assassinator 13' (Universal-Island)
3/5
By: Clara Burtenshaw

Chikinki: Bristol-ian newcomers whose sound is one paved by a relentless guitar-strum and an eerily bewitching synth-line. In equal parts.
Electro-punk? Whatever. Matched by an equally infectious chorus, no prizes for discovering just why these humble boys from the South-West are making waves in a scene heavily dominated by North American acts such as Hot Hot Heat.
Yet, though boasting proficient production and a slick cohesion between the different factions that have been fused together on it, 'Assassinator 13' suffers from a repetition that can make an essentially original idea seem mildly trite after a few listens. However, with future 'snazzy' remixes and the inevitable lauding it's set to garner, matter of this nature could quite easily take the dancefloors of local indie-discos the nation over by storm in '04. F**king cool name, too.
