Chungking - 'Let The Love In'

You have to wonder where some people pick up their inspiration. For Chungking, the best guess is that they are genuinely a suave, sophisticated trio with much love in their hearts; how else could a band so young make such polished, heartfelt music? They haven't picked this up from geographical placing, it's true - their native Brighton, famed for its big beats and even bigger hangovers, hasn't sounded this soulful in a while.

But my, no amount of dousing with lotion and oils could make this much smoother. 'Let The Love In' is a slick slice of bluesy rock that lays down its weary head somewhere between Spiritualized and Barry White, romantic gospel vocals and the deepest of male croons swirling over the slow funk of a relentless, simple bass-line. 'Oh baby, I just wanna love you in the sunshine, yeah with the heat on my back' - yes, folks: it's the Chef from South Park you can take seriously.

It works like a potion, a lullaby gently nursing you into slumber with the softest of touches. It's delightfully warm, but admittedly not the place to visit when pumped full of adrenaline. Instead, Chungking seductively invite you to pull up a seat at some smoky jazz bar and soak up the hypnotic groove. By now, you should be feeling very, very sleepy...
