Clinic - 'The Second Line' (Domino)
4/5

It's no secret, songs for adverts, typically Levi's Jeans TV advertisements at that, can be used to further careers. An example of this was when Death In Vegas' 'Dirge' was used in a recent campaign. However, it can also mark the end of a band's life. Sure, it's nothing to do with the legendary, denim trousers having a curse where bands fade out after being in the spotlight for a while. But remember what happened to Babylon Zoo who celebrated the chart hit 'Spaceman' after being featured on an advert? Or that lot who did 'Underwater Love'? Or even Mr Oizo (yes, the guy with the furry, yellow puppet called Flat Eric)? No, exactly. We don't know what happened to them either. Which is exactly our point.
However, like Death In Vegas, Clinic will be an exception to the rule that songs on TV ad's = death. Oh no, the Scouse act's donation to Levi's is a tantalising mix of smooth guitar, slow beats and the lead-guy making loads of weird noises. In short, it's ace. Clinic have pushed themselves into a pigeon-hole which would be criminal to try and label. But, for the meantime, we can just call it pure class.
