The Coral - 'Don't Think You're The First' (Deltasonic)
5/5

Admirably, possibly the only band currently trotting on planet Earth to not re-release any material from their debut-LP to help further their status, The Coral have instead returned to the singles-market with a completely fresh, brand new piece of music - the first signs of matter from their already upcoming, second album to date.
And such is the act's progressive streak, 'Don't Think You're The First' is the band's finest moment to date. Sure, you may not quite see at first, but - if anything's been learnt via the Hoylake sextet's output to date - it's that The Coral are not a band to be consumed in one swoop; this is a group where the term 'grower' is an understatement, where their records eventually creep themselves deep into your inner-most psyche, and never once display any attempt to shift.
'Don't Think...' is a 60's-influenced dashing of remarkable cool, the band at their most downbeat and haunting, where jangling guitars and Mamas & Papas flute intertwine behind James Skelly's thoughtful croon; 'Do I still love you,' he ponders, the backing-members plodding through an aural landscape vivid and intriguing enough to suggest that their sonically strongest work is still yet to come. Whether or not Skelly finds his prior sentiments to be truthful or not, he can at least be comfortable in the confirmation that his listeners are still fully immersed in a Casanova-esque adoration for such wise contemplativeness.
