Cornershop - 'Lessons Learnt...'

Tjinder Singh and co. are back as Cornershop.

Following main-man Singh going off on a disco-fuelled tangent in dance-outfit Clinton, he's now returned to the incarnation which allowed his group to become renowned for such hits as 'Brimful Of Asha' and... and...

Well, the fact of the matter is that, although they may be best known for one track in particular, there's no doubting the rather genuine quality of single 'Sleep On The Left Side' or their notorious Punjabi live-cover of The Beatles' 'Norwegian Wood'. Whatever the success, the Shop have clearly always been an inventive and stylish fuser of different styles.

And, such, it's only fitting that their return single - the first in years - merges more genres than Elton John has tantrums. Disco, 70's soul, rock-guitar and the inevitable Indian link are just some of the things you'll detect in this rich-sounding piece of music, which is actually cooler than you could ever imagine, complete with kitsch female singers.

Seemingly, Tjinder could be back with a formula that's going to allow his group to breathe new life into their past endeavours, whilst slowly move on in a new direction at the same time. Cunning.
