The Crescent - 'Test Of Time' (Hut)

4/5

The Crescent - 'Test Of Time'

The Crescent are an unashamedly retro indie-rock four-piece from Liverpool. They sound quite a bit like Cast. Still listening? You should be.

Yet, despite their sound, The Crescent make no apologies for the classic influences pervading their music: nor should they. Any band who can count former La's legend Lee Mavers as a former member deserves to be taken seriously.

Whilst not quite as pugnacious as debut single 'On the Run', the guys' second single is an assured, mature effort; 'Are you gonna last,' demands frontman Wayne Whitfield at a specific instance - one part John Power, one part Robbie Fowler, the other part an everyday Liverpudlian dreamer-lad. Their snobbish critics might fail to hold out, but The Crescent could be around for quite a while. If they themselves don't screw it up, that is.
