Abraham - 'Magpie' (JBO / V2)
3/5
By: Toby L

Imagine an angelic female voice clamouring with a room-full of studio equipment and perky keyboards and you've got Rachel Cuming's latest offering, the lounge-sexiness pop of 'Magpie'.
Multi-tracked vocals intertwined with sound-effects that wouldn't be out of place in a distressingly technical sci-fi film-flop may harbour up an unpleasant preconception, yet the charm of Cuming is her modest vocal-display gliding through refreshingly understated production, the result of which creating a track that you feel could have been played live and direct to you - actually in your own living-room.
Charming, instant and scandalously overlooked, Abraham is testament to sincere, genuine talent which doesn't implement the perks of clichι pop-shenanigans to denote its sound; a welcome change, by all means.
