The effortless blending of beauty and tragedy has been Deftones' consistent formula-winner since their original emergence with debut-LP 'Adrenaline' eight whole years ago.
Our privilege then that this has yet to change. 'Minerva' is the band's indisputably finest single yet - more of before, merged with a yearning vocal-wash from vocalist Chino that serves as gushingly confounding as the impact they first amounted upon uprooting the mainstream all that time ago.
Now nu-metal seems so two years ago and continues to fizzle away, standing defiant, unmarked and compelling as ever are the Deftones: the scene's leaders, whose turgid, heavy melancholy and brutally bleak undertones defined and epitomised the genre's most realised and possibly perfect role-model.
