The Dillinger Escape Plan - 'Irony Is A Dead Scene'

Even more impressive than the concept of an honest member of parliament, The Dillinger Escape Plan's latest EP is a definitive guide to, potentially (and hopefully), the future of rock: the complete antithesis of empty, static nu-metal garbling.

Featuring as many twists and turns as a badly-lit, particularly horrifying labyrinth, thanks to the aid of ex-Faith No More star, Mike Patton, who horrifically shrieks and howls throughout, all four tracks exude a dark morbidity and instrumental-inclination to suggest that The DEP are quite possibly the most disturbing, albeit forward-thinking, guitar-act in existence in the world at the moment. Even their Aphex Twin cover of 'Come To Daddy' proves as exhilarating as the original.

Imagine System Of A Down cranked up by 100 and you're quarter of the way there... So, spin the disc - and be afraid, be very afraid (and excited).
