DOG - 'Jerusalem' (Heavenly)

3/5

DOG - 'Jerusalem'

The DOG collective is yet another of 2002's gross, grand oddities, an ensemble of characters that produce a beats-heavy dashing of dub-infused grooves and rock-textured reggae. Quite how they sleep at night with so many ideas rushing through their minds is a proposition to consider somewhat deeply.

With debut-release 'Jerusalem' successfully amassing the live-energy that brought many of their summer-festival appearances throughout the year into arms-in-the-air euphoric events, its dirty, slowly-crawling hooks and blaring synths earmark the bridge between The Chemical Brothers and Gorillaz; with the flipside 'Neverland Dub' toning down proceedings to a limbering along in a stoned, string-driven daze, there's obviously enough here to demonstrate that DOG's vicious attack on all genres known to man will form further releases of merit for a considerable while yet.
