The Donnas - 'Take It Off' (Atlantic)
3/5
By: Toby L

There's a prevailing notion that, no matter how hard they try, The Donnas will always sound too innocent to ever truly pierce the ears of the hardcore rock-elite. Where their female-axed guitars should churn and slice in the vein of an even more ragged, snarling Elastica, instead our gals end up sounding like a mildly more glorified, ageing Status Quo.
Still, the formula has been worked on over the years, now cocksure and stammering enough to form an energised, nigh-on ballistic slab of girlie indifference, 'Take It Off' their most accessible moment to date, if wholly ridiculous in subject-matter. If they can keep up the pace and unified f**k-it-all mentality, they may finally find their long-due place in a scene otherwise too dominant with the same names and floppy haircuts.
