Elbow - 'Fugitive Motel' (V2)
4/5
By: Samantha Hall

Epic, melodic rock at its most Brechtian. Genuine, heartfelt and poetic; flowing, firm - it sighs, 'please love me'...
Yes, Elbow again. A beautiful, vulnerable, yet very controlled, lover's tangle is the only way to describe the Bury quintet's sublime follow-up to the somewhat harder-edged 'Fallen Angel' from '03's 'Cast of Thousands'. Overwhelming in its creamy richness of orchestral sound but suitably paced and simplistic enough that it is not suffocating; what heaving and mesmerising imagery Elbow create: lazy, romantic dreams and aspirations captured perfectly in just under four breathy, fluttering minutes.
