Consistent agents-provocateurs for the understated anthem, The Flaming Lips' 'Yoshimi...' sees the puzzlingly open-minded trio within a full-on melodic surge, complete with wistful acoustic accompaniment, questionable lyrics and, fittingly, robotic sound-effects.
Yup - we agree: it should be a mess. But, like everything that's so charming and endearing about the threesome's nigh-on, two decades in music to date, it's a package that others will fail to produce time and time again. Originality: 1; banality: 0.
