Four Tet - 'She Moves She' (Domino)

3/5

By: Toby L

Four Tet

Genres? 'Robot-trance' is the best you'll do here...

Kieran Hebden, the UK's most bizarrely occurring natural object, is a species of - presumably - immense, deep thought - possibly to the extent of sleepless nights and a brooding fetish with lap-tops and studio-equipment; you can almost imagine him tip-toeing downstairs to the basement, aided only by candlelight, to knock together another of his minimalist sound-vignettes following yet another restless few hours in the cabin-bed.

'She Moves She' is the latest installation to a fruitful career, one fuelled not only under his guise as the remote electronica of Four Tet, but as bass-player for avant-garde lounge-lizards Fridge. Fittingly to the former title, his material is cold, compressed and utterly out there - perhaps further exemplified amidst the spacey starkness of this single's second track, 'Cradle'. And, gee, no wonder he probably gets no f**king sleep with a head this brooding.
