Garbage - 'Cherry Lips' (Mushroom)

3/5

By: Toby L

GarbageWith third album 'Beautifulgarbage' gaining far less media-attention than prior releases, many have shied away from support of this US/Scottish act.

Previous single, 'Androgyny' - a self-confessed all-out pop song, whose benefits derived from intelligent production and ever-distinct trashy guitar and catchy chorus - is a good pre-cursor to this, 'Cherry Lips', which isn't a million miles away in variation. Sure enough, the feel-good, swish and punchy content is once again provided from Miss Manson and co. and maybe that's what critics have picked up on - the fact that progression seems to be a lacking area of Garbage's repertoire.

Still, what remains is what they've essentially done best over the last six years: strong, crossover rock songs which look great on MTV. And, although there's little wrong with this, it's hoped that maybe something more can be added to the equation in future efforts. Until then, enjoy what's on show, for some still strongly feel that nobody does it better.
