Compelling rockfeedback-fave and all-round storyteller-extraordinaire, Ed Harcourt returns to music with a brand, new single, the first official fruits of his upcoming, second full-length album, 'From Every Sphere'.
Discarding the prior single-chirpiness of the past, in spite of its title, 'All Of Your Days...' sees Harcourt in wilfully mysterious and cutting mode; 'With beady black eyes/The bluebird has died', he serenades within the opening bars, a pump-organ humping in the background, and it's as cosying an experience as a game of pool with the grim-reaper.
Yet, in his succinctly endearing flare, the bridled temperament is otherwise concealed in the helplessly melodic flow-of-tune that has helped Ed to be seen as an alt-music visionary of the underground in recent times. A few more of these such efforts, however, and that underground will be swapped with the grappling bustle of mainstream-success.
