Ed Harcourt - 'Watching The Sun Come Up' (Heavenly)
4/5
By: Joshua K

Ed Harcourt's current LP, 'From Every Sphere', is a marketer's dream - and nightmare. With so many quality songs, which ones do you issue as singles?
Following previous album-taster 'All of Your Days Will Be Blessed' comes this inspirational, lush second helping. In contrast to some of Harcourt's more Tom Waits-like moments, 'Watching The Sun Come Up' is a beautiful, Rufus Wainwright-esque pop song. Aptly named, its tones conjure that very early morning hour when, having been up all night, both sleep and anticipation hovering over you, epiphanies occur and anything feels possible.
As the track reaches a crescendo Harcourt sings, 'It all can happen if I want it to... I can attack the day with the will to burn'. And songs like this prove he can, indeed.
Sunrise. Sunset. Any time in between. We'll take it.
