Hoggboy - 'So Young' / 'Call Me Suck' (Sobriety)
4/5

'The kids need us,' insists lead-singer Hogg of this new indie-rock quartet. 'What else have they got?'

Well, with such arrogance as this, although you know you should hate them for their cockiness, you can't help but crack a wry smile and get excited that maybe Brit bands with attitude are back on the block. Of course, any band beginning their potential career with a track-title that was also once a hit for Suede must surely be on an interesting path. And Hoggboy are. So far.
With their first tune produced by their native Sheffield's top guitarist/solo-artist/Pulp-contributor/ex-Longpig, Richard Hawley, this can only help them get their brash, anthemic rock 'n' roll across with even more cred. The leather jackets, shades, cheekbones are all here too, and the inimitable youthful spirit which fuels their fire.
With an intro and passion such as this, let's hope they follow it up in future efforts. As Hogg says, maybe the kids do need 'em after all.
