Hot Hot Heat - 'Bandages' (B-Unique / Sub Pop)
4/5

Robert Smith must be throwing his head into his hands. With material such as 'Bandages', no wonder Hot Hot Heat are provoking a reaction across the board more tempestuous than their own name.
Understanding a simple notion that 'song is all', HHH take the mere concept of chorus-verse-chorus and make it more thrillingly wondrous and alluring than the prospect of a hammer to the forehead of a boy-band Svengali. Keyboards! Shouty vocals! An instantly memorable hook! It seems a basic formula - in fact, it is - but when delivered with as much aplomb as this, it conjugates towards, potentially, the first ever crossover-hit for the much-anticipated emergence of punk-funk. Fine form, indeed.
