Kid Galahad - 'Gold Dust Noise' (Ignition)
3/5
By: Matt Tomiak

'Eclectic' hardly does justice to the huge range of influences swirling around in the melting-point of Maidenhead mavericks, Kid Galahad. From the most laid-back of grooves to the most energetic rockers, 'Gold Dust Noise' really is a strong debut record.
Highlights are many and varied: 'Skedaddle' is a more genuine contender for the crown of 'The British Beck' than anything Badly Drawn Boy's done recently; the Suede-esque glam-stomper, 'Swimming to Shore', complete with Ash's uncanny Brett Anderson impression, just brims with cocky charm; and recent single, 'Runaway Train', is evocative of Supergrass at their most irresistibly ebullient. However, the stand-out track is undoubtedly 'Stealin' Beats', the most compellingly funky little number to originate from a sleepy Buckinghamshire town to date.
Whilst perhaps not quite The Holy Grail, you could do a lot worse than to let these noble home-counties troubadours into your life.
