The Jeevas - 'Virginia' (Cowboy Musik)
3/5
By: Matt Tomiak

Had Shed Seven's Rick Witter decided to reform Cast and embark upon a project in which the new band recorded an LP of Northern Uproar covers, they would still probably be perceived by the press as more credible than The Jeevas, ex-Kula Shaker and much-maligned frontman Crispian Mills' new band. Heck, as if ole Rice Crispo wasn't enough, he's even joined on this, the group's debut single, by Dan McKinna and Andy Nixon, previous bassist and drummer respectively in equally-reviled, quirky, late-nineties act, Straw... So, yes, it's a media field-day already.
Well, here at rockfeedback, notions of musical 'cool' don't mean as much as sheer, grounded talent; every act mentioned here so far was responsible for at least one passably memorable single.
As for The Jeevas' musical-endeavours then, fans of Kula Shaker (and there are plenty of them, believe it or not) won't be disappointed. Mills - sounding more like Bob Dylan than ever before - is still up to his old tricks on the title-track, Blur's 'Trimm Trabb' springing to mind here, and the group collectively forming an ode to a girl called Virginia who is a witch, apparently. Despite how it sounds, goodness, just you try and resist it.
