Kaito - 'EP' (Blast First)
4/5
By: Toby L

Stop-start, heart-attack noise-crashes and filthily taunting, 'Crazy Horses'-esque guitar-squeals and thunderous drum/bass hysteria; yes, by Gad: Kaito are getting off to a most enviable start (... part-two...) indeed.
Long parading the circuit, but only now afforded the opportunity of wider-spread recognition via a switch-over to Mute imprint Blast First, their 'debut'-EP is a four-track dashing of echo-y, if not distinguishable, female vocals, cheeky, messy hooks and East London standards of fashionability. And, most favourably, it's in second track 'Driving Manual Auto', or the whirring, dark precision of 'Try Me Out', that they sound akin to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs getting their rehearsal-room ram-raided by label-sharing, arty-punk types, Erase Errata, just as Karen*O's tearing up another five packets of tights. As you'd expect, truly thrilling.
