Kings Of Leon - 'Wasted Time' (Hand Me Down / BMG)
3/5
By: Toby L

It seems a distant time-zone ago when tinny drums, skinny guitars and growly vocals weren't the obligatory components of any contemporary rock-45. But, if there's one thing that the 21st Century has taught us, it's that a glance behind the shoulder to the swagger and influences of yesteryear are precisely the stuff necessary to clinch a chart-placement and tongue-wagging public-at-large.
Which, hardly astonishingly, brings us to K of L's third single to date - a fighting grapple of hooks, stomper of a chorus, and furore of blustering, sweeping hair, and not-so-precariously groomed beards. Oh goodness yes, the Southern Stateside quartet truly exude that barn-fresh stench of grisly rock 'n' roll - and, perhaps ironically to its inspiration, it couldn't fail to be anything other than hopelessly now.
