Korn - 'Right Now' (Epic)
2/5

'I'm feeling mean today/My life's not blown away... You open your mouth again/I swear I'll break it - you open your mouth again/By God, I cannot take it... Shut up!/Shut up!/I'll f**k you up!' La di da... Dum di dum...
Korn here again, fresh from our rather ruddy good new album, the appropriately angsty-titled 'Take A Look In The Mirror'.
Maybe it's because this sound is simply so commonplace now, that the easily nod-along-able, simple, melodic introduction seems quite pleasant. Together with the 'Wizard of Oz'-style, wicked witch's hands-mans' 'ohhs' and 'ahhhs', this makes for one surefire, easy-listening slice of 'issue-kid' rock.
Then again, we must remember that our dreadlocked pals invented this thang in the first place; their action of taking a step back to their own original sound and process of creating, is actually quite admirable. But, like the trouble facing all masters of their art, the clones followed their pain-ridden example, and now in them going back, 'Right Now' comes across as yet another imitative, slightly repetitive, frustrated, self-mutilation number.
