Ben Kweller - 'EP Phone Home' (679)
3/5
By: Matt Tomiak

The superbly-titled 'EP Phone Home' is the promising debut release from the New York-based Ben Kweller.
Having supported more US lo-fi/alt-rock acts than you could shake a down-tuned guitar at - Pavement, eels, Dinosaur Jr, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Mercury Rev, Moldy Peaches - Ben's certainly not been short of opportunities to gain a wide range of influences. Amidst five tunes of a consistently strong quality and rare charm, the standout here is 'Harriet's Got A Song': a boisterous rocker in the midst of gentle folk tuneage that would be right at home on Weezer's latest album.
Sincere, sweet and refreshing, Kweller is most definitely an act to look out for in the coming months.
