Limp Bizkit - 'Eat You Alive' (Interscope)

Limp Bizkit - 'Eat You Alive'

The growl of record-label-owning, macho testosterone perhaps most definitive to the 'Bizkit's unflattering, becapped henchman, Fred Durst, 'Eat You Alive' is the recorded return of the multi-selling, recently guitarist-shedding, nu-metal pioneers.

And, sadly, much like their recent Finsbury Park show in London, the relevance of the band's re-emergence hits a sour note. Wes Borland out of the frame, and seemingly some of even the most subtle intricacies that made their past trade passably entertaining are fobbed off in favour of an emotionless middle-eight and chunky guitars that dirge more than they grind. The spiralling guitar-lines, derivative lyrics - sorry, Fred; the Deftones simply do this intense-angst thing considerably more convincingly.
