Amidst the gesticulating wobble of the tree in the corner of the room, the ropey pieces of balding tinsel, and a fair dashing of alcohol poking out from every crevice in the kitchen, the typical Christmas heralds a soundtrack typically consisting of aged crooners name-checking obscenely easy-listening nonsense.
So, in times of seasonal musical-festivities, break the mould this year - instead slap Mew's second single on the Hi-Fi; a startling mix of Broadway synths and jangling guitars, the Danish quartet's singer in Jonas Bjerre ensures an assured and gracefully endearing vocal-exertion, the epic 'She Came Home For Christmas' as sublime as merry indie-cum-pop can prove...
... The only drawback is that its intricate and blissful delicacy may be drowned out by the sound of crackers being pulled in the distance. If so, turn it up louder.
