Misty Dixon - 'Love Is Like A Butterfly' (Twisted Nerve)

Misty Dixon - 'Love Is Like A Butterfly'

Surprisingly, covering TV theme-tunes can often lead to positive results; in The Breeders' case, their upcoming single-release 'Son Of Three' features a sprightly, entertaining version of the 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' opening rock-out, whilst the Manics notably scored their first ever hit-single via their soiree into 'M*A*S*H*'s 'Suicide Is Painless'.

But, just how has Misty Dixon's rendition of the inaugural musical-sequence from 70's sitcom, 'Butterflies', panned out for the girl-group? Quite well, is the immediate answer; angelic vocals - as supplied from solo-success in her own right, Jane Weaver - and warming harmonies are the order of the day, coupled with lo-fi, scatty production, where the garage-rock guitars are as sonically turbo-charged as that last piece of knitting that your Gran finished last week.

Also possessive of convincingly strong b-sides, 'Coco' - an ode to Weaver's cat, no less - and the enchanting 'I, So Many Times', this is truly a release for those that prefer subtlety over in-yer-face substance... And, would you Adam and Eve it? You also get a free, spin-up-and-fly butterfly-toy with the CD - blinding!
