Frank Black must be going spare; he releases the same form of composition for at least a decade, and barely receives a look-in, such is his historic past with the Pixies which results in his future produce being blankly overlooked.
Then, along come The Mountain Goats, even on his old, fricking label, and release a piece which simply steals his originally-created, conversational drawl afloat a sea of darkly menacing tones.
Naturally, this is why the MG's 1 minute 51 seconds of 'See American Right' are subtly essential - it picks up on a successful formula, tweaks it to the modern-age and allows the produce to wreak havoc with your stereo... Awesome. The only guy, you suspect, that wouldn't quite enjoy such an end-result, is Black himself... In that case then, let's hope he still has a sense of humour.
