Moving Units - 'Moving Units' (Palm Pictures)
4/5

Moving Units are the latest entrants into the craze of what's increasingly becoming recognised as 'disco-punk' - or, indeed - 'kids that grew up in the 70's and 80's finally getting a chance to recreate/rip off their original inspirations'. Only one thing - aside from the definitive haircuts and personalities offered back then, all that's around presently is arguably a stronger, less gimmicks-ridden musical alternative to the original heyday of jivey guitars and joyous keyboards.
Like their competitors, MU are Stateside representatives of the rising fad, bringing with them as they do a sharp bass punch and chiming guitar texture not unlike a grooved-up Strokes break-dancing with The Faint ('Melodrama'), whilst The Rapture's infused, inspired grip on the genre is provided a bountiful swipe of the title during an inviting 'X and Y'. With an additional two tracks of equal floor-filling finesse, as vocalist Blake Miller suavely defines, 'Into the disco, is where you will soon go', you'd have a tough time turning him down if the soundtrack provided was to turn out this glorious.
