Muse - 'Deadstar' / 'In Your World' (Mushroom)

Muse - 'Deadstar'/'In Your World'

It's certainly a swift return to action for the UK's finest living rock trio; the fourth single, 'Feeling Good', from last year's much-lauded 'Origins of Symmetry' LP was released just six months ago. However, despite this, the huge musical leap made by Muse between debut LP 'Showbiz' and their second album doesn't seem to have slowed slightly.

'Deadstar', after all, is essentially 'New Born', part II; no bad thing per se, and, indeed, most bands could only dream of making a record so innovative, yet it's just that bearing in mind the staggering rate Muse have been evolving at, it's something of an anti-climax... Until you hear second half of the A-A release - 'In Your World', a soaring majestic flourish of electric guitar-tinged classicism, engulfed in fiddly bass and Matt Bellamy's typical life-affirming vocals. Stunning.

A new release in two parts, evidently, though with an energy which indicates that Muse are still far away from losing the fire in their bellies. Phew, had us worried for a moment there, too.
