Nada Surf - 'Inside Of Love' (Heavenly)
3/5
By: Joshua K

This, the third single off comeback LP 'Let Go' by New Yorkers Nada Surf, begins, inauspiciously enough, sounding like Radiohead. All tremolo guitar and mid-to-high-pitched Thom Yorke vox, lamenting a loser in love who's always 'on the outside of love' and 'can't find [his] way in'.
But wait. Soon the melody hypnotically weaves its way through your consciousness like a lullaby. And here comes Matthew Caw's voice, hitting quasi-falsetto highs and plaintive lows as it worms its way into your brain.
By the picked-string guitar solo at 1'40', you're in the palm of their hands. Next thing you know, it's 3'32' later, a tear's in your eye and you're thinking:
'Good God, ladies! He's mature, a talented songwriter—and still receiving residuals from their 1996 smash 'Popular' [conveniently included here as a b-side]. Won't somebody take him home, take him in, and love him!?!'
You know it's the right thing to do.
