Nickelback - 'How You Remind Me' (Roadrunner)

1/5

Nickelback

Let's make no mistake here: Nickelback are that Canadian band with beards. And, yes, the lead-singer resembles a poodle.

Still, appearances and image aside, we're here to reflect on da moosik, man; and - depending on your take of large-style, stadium-rock anthems - this could be either sheer bliss, or hell's worst nightmare.

Thus, to be fair to both kinds of music-fans, let's provide two reviews in one: the first for the cheese-shredding guitar-pundits (Audience One - ****) - and the second for the cynical, disaffected indie-generation (Audience Two - *).

Audience One: This is an all-out grunge-ballad that grabs your attention instantly, hooking you in via its repetitive chorus and engineered-to-make-you-sing-along 'Yeah, yeah's, which are so meaningless yet oddly necessary that you can't do anything other than run to your local record-store, purchase all formats of the record, and then buy the current LP, 'Silver Side Up'. Honestly, this could be the finest song you'll hear for years. And you won't get sick of it either. Bonus!

Audience Two: Oh dear God. And you thought Canada would try and stop itself after Bryan Adams? Words prevent one to continue.

So, there you go: which fold do you fall into? (P.S. If it's 'one', you shall die alone).
