Nylon Pylon - 'Pushin' (London)

3/5

By: Toby L

Nylon Pylon

Nylon Pylon: Manchester's latest act of note, recent support to The Music, and as managed by the wizard-team behind Elbow, The Polyphonic Spree and My Vitriol. Whether the single amounted to much or not, with a starting-point such as this, who's to deny the possible glory on offer..?

Lucky that their electronic-based instrumental produce is a force in its own right: layers of looped synths and electro-samples colliding against disarmingly brash vocals that suggest a distinct reticence to lighten up. And why bother anyway - if dance-music often provided as much restless swaggering and pouting as this, then there's a more than plausible chance that 'monotony' wouldn't be as much of a commonly-associated tag to such an inconsistent scene. A significant breath of refreshingly open-minded air.
