'Perfect' records most often arrive in unpredictable forms. And Peaches' 'Rock Show' is about as unanticipated as they come. But just as damn irresistible.
Maybe you only realise how instantly purchasable it is when you hear a really rather wondrous, skewed cover of the tune on the flip-side from Detroit's unstoppable Electric 6, slowed-down, greased-up and synths-tinged, with an 80's-esque vocal-appearance from Dick Valentine that's simply jaw-dropping.
But Peaches' version - oh no, a different story. Drums, guitars, vocals. That's all it takes - and you've got yourself a club classic. 'Rock show... You've come to see a rock show...' The sentiments, and the tune itself for that matter, couldn't be simpler, but the punk delivery, snide stares and DIY-sleaze fashion that accompany the package... Well, without further ado? It's a sensational winner.
