Placebo - 'The Bitter End' (Hut)
4/5
By: Toby L

Don't be fooled - that opening guitar-strike may sound more identifiable to a Nick Valensi or Albert Hammond, but - don't worry - Molko and co. ain't goin' NYC all over us yet...
Nah, more likely - this is the sign of baldy Brian rediscovering the fine art of tunefulness and discord working together to craft Placebo's finest, dark-yet-melodic, single since... wait for it... 'Pure Morning'.
Seamlessly modern, eerily structured, and delivered in the lightning pace of the 'Bo during one of their less sleazy moments, this is a defiant reminder of how dark-rock can savagely reward the senses, and prove that little alternative exists elsewhere.
