Placebo - 'Special Needs' (Hut)

3/5

By: Toby L

Placebo - 'Special Needs'

Placebo again; can any act so indie boast so much tenacity after all the years, and still get away with performing the same thing? Oh - what's that; they've tinkered with the formula...? Yowzers.

Entering lofty, soar-a-long, introspective territory then, after two rousing pop-singles from an earnest, fourth LP, 'Special Needs' drifts along - atmospheric keyboards and Brian Molko's refrain of 'Remember me...', et al - in a dozily bright and breezy manner, treading finely the board between pretension and riveting, avant-garde rock. Precisely the tenure ones so elegantly wasted as Molko should strive towards on a more indulgently common basis.
