Puscha - 'Maybe We Want To'

When a record describes itself as 'Muse with a hard-on' (what exactly does that mean?), you wonder quite what it's aiming for.

Upon discovering that it's actually a decent little tune, we'd hope that this isn't a description that Brighton-based five piece Puscha chose themselves. It neither suits their sound nor does them any favours. Puscha can stand on their own merit, and you get the impression a baptism of fire is just what they're in search of.

The defiant and rocking 'Maybe We Want To' will not be breaking down any barriers quite yet, but it's knocking on all the right doors - effective changes of dynamic, (oh 'quiet/loud', you just work every time don't you?) Queens of the Stone Age-esque monster riffage and a firm hold on a modesty that means it can keep its reserved charm whilst knocking out the heavy distortion.

Teenage angst has served many very well, and perhaps such heated youthful exuberance is what's driving Puscha. What's worth keeping a watchful glance on is how this grows up - there's a sparkle in the eye here, a cheeky grin that suggests they've got something monumental in mind. This is showing all the right signs; let's only hope they follow them.
